In a matter of weeks the world has forever changed due to COVID-19. We are all navigating this disruption to our lifestyles together.

Here are some social media tips for your business or brand during this pandemic.

1. Don’t go dark- It’s dark times, but now more than ever people are on their social media. Be the light. Stay connected with people. We all feel so isolated right now. Join in the conversation. Stay in touch. Even if your business has to close temporarily you can still post on your social to continue to show you are there.

2. Be Sensitive - The Coronavirus has disrupted all of our lives. People have closed businesses, lost jobs, lost loved ones. Be mindful and respectful of your followers and the world when posting.

3. Be Proactive - Is your business taking special steps and precautions to help keep everyone safe? Make it known. We are all in this together. Some people are honestly afraid to head to the grocery store for essential items. How is your business making their experience safer?

Bank of Hawaii has been actively posting how they are making it easier for their customers to bank with them in the COVID-19 crisis. They promote their online banking and even show how they are making sure people are keeping social distance when they visit bank branches in person.

Be Real - Times are tough right now. Did one of the precautions you had to take include closing your business temporarily? Use your social channels to share your story and let your followers/patrons know.

Inspire, Help & Support Others - We may be practicing social distancing, but we can still connect and be a community and support system on our social channels.

Inspire: Something as simple as an inspirational or motivational quote could help brighten someone’s feed. Having a hard time coming up with something? Google inspirational quoutes and pick which one resonates with you and your brand. You may even raise your own spirits while reading them.

Help: Share helpful things people can be doing at home. If you are a restaurant, maybe share a favorite recipe that your fans can make and enjoy in their own kitchen since they can’t come dine with you now in person.

Parents across the country are home with their kids out of school. Hawaii artist Ashley Kaase created coloring sheets of her art that parents can print out for their kids to create their own masterpieces.

You can download them here.

Support: If your business is still open, use your blessing to help others in need. You could do something nice for an old folks' home, throw a canned food drive, raise money for other businesses that had to shutter - put on your thinking cap and see what you can do.

I love how people are sharing images like these to support our health care workers in the frontline of this pandemic.

Remember, while everyone is practicing social distancing and not leaving their homes for weeks life can be a little crazy, lonely and confusing. Use social media to help brighten someone’s day. We will all get through this crazy time together, and come out stronger and better in the end.

What are some things you are posting on your social media channels when it comes to COVID-19? Let us know in the comments.

Stay safe and healthy friends! Don’t fall into the pandemic of fear. Continue to be the light. Smile at a stranger. Help when you can.
